Berenice

Berenice depicted with her brother Agrippa II.

Berenice is a former Jewish queen, the mistress of Titus. She was angry with Titus in the The Assassins of Rome because Titus was in love with Jonathan's mother and she wanted to be with Titus herself.

Storyline[]

Berenice was a Jewish Queen who met Titus during the siege of Jerusalem. They fell in love and Berenice went with Titus (along with many slaves) to Rome. Titus promised to marry her and make her Empress once the "Mule-driver"(Vespasian) had died. But the Roman Senate made Titus choose between marrying Berenice or ruling as Emperor.

Titus sent her away, but Berenice thought that once Titus became emperor he would recall her, so she came back to Rome, but was sent away again. Berenice suspected Titus had fallen in love with Susannah, who was a slave in the Golden house at the time. So she hired 3 assassins to kill her, all of which failed. After the events in The Enemies of Jupiter, she left and did not appear again.

Personality[]

Berenice has a strong jealous streak and can be extremely possessive. However, she is said by Agathus to be compassionate and intended to be Titus' Empress so that she could help her people.
